Easy Glam: Dolce Vita

Happy Wednesday everyone! Half way through the week yayyy! Can you tell that I'm looking forward to the weekend?

When Charlotte Tilbury's makeup line was launched last year, I was instantly drawn to the Dolce Vita eye palette so I didn't need too much arm twisting when it came to splurging on it. At £38, it is pricey but totally worth it in my opinion. It's quite versatile really, I use the lightest shade as an inner corner highlight nearly every day so it's definitely well loved. The star or the show for me is the enhance shade, which is on the top right hand side of the quad, it's a beautiful shade that I simply can't get enough of. I used this palette to create a very simple and easy yet glamorous look, I kept everything else quite simple so that it can be dressed up or down with your lip colour or a more intense blusher.

Base
Benefit Big Easy in Fair, applied using the Real Techniques complexion sponge
Mac Prolongwear concealer in NW15
Benefit Dallas box powder (missed out of photo :/ )
Stila Kitten highlighting duo

Eyes
Urban Decay primer potion in Eden
Charlotte Tibury Dolce Vita eye palette
Stila Stay All Day eyeliner
L'Oreal Miss Manga mascar
Benefit Gimme Brow in medium dark

Lips
Mac Hue lipstick

I would love to check out some more products from Charlotte Tilbury's line, so please leave any recommendations in the comments below.

Have You Discovered? Blush Edition

It's a couple of days late and I skipped out last weeks bronzer edition, but hey ho here it is anyway. This is my favourite cream blusher ever! Big claim I know. It's the Revlon Photoready cream blusher in the shade pinched. It's a pretty peachy coral colour that gives you a lovely glow, perfect for Spring and Summer. It's the longest lasting cream blusher that I've tried so far, so big thumbs up from me.

I'm seriously going to try to keep up with these posts from now on, sorry!

Pay Day Purchases

Hope you're all having a lovely Sunday. So I went shopping yesterday as I wanted to put together a little gift for my sister, as she gave birth to my beautiful nephew Ollie last week. I of course ended up picking up a few bits for myself at the same time, oops!

So first up is what I got for myself. Quite tame don't you think? I had seen so many amazing reviews on the new Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvets, so I had to pick a couple up. They are a gorgeous liquid lipstick that dry to a matte finish. I tried them as soon as I got home and it's love! I picked up the shade 01, which is a deep red that will look gorgeous on anyone. I also got 06, which is a very bright and pigmented pink shade. I am so excited to give them a proper go. Expect them to appear here again soon.

I then took a wonder into The Body Shop, not my usual stomping ground but after hearing Amelia Liana rave about the Camomile cleansing oil, I had to pick it up. While I was there I also got the facial massager, which looks like an odd contraption but I saw Caroline Hirons using it in her first YouTube video so I thought, if it's good enough for Caroline then it's good enough for me. The final thing I picked up there was the Vanilla perfume oil, I was just intrigued by this and it smells divine. I can't resist anything vanilla scented.

I also popped into Accesorize and picked up two pairs of earrings and a necklace. So pretty!! I wanted a few pieces of jewellery that would jazz up boring outfits.

Now onto what I got my sister, her name is Kelly by the way. I wanted to get her a few of my favourite things, the first stop was Boots. I got her my favourite foundation brush, the Real Techniques expert face brush. I also picked up Essie Sand Tropez and Too Hot Too Hot, Maybelline The Rocket, The Body Shop body butter in peach and a L'Oreal gloss in shade 101. I also got her a jar of bon bons from T K Maxx and a Yankee Candle in Black Coconut from Clintons, which smells like holiday and a sexy man all in one oh my! Finally I put it all in a pretty box from T K Maxx.

Here's a photo of my nephew Ollie on the day that he was born for you all to swoon over. He's an absolute beauty.

Nailed it!

This post is mainly to inspire myself. Nail art is something that I used to experiment with a lot, not so much recently (mainly because I'm lazy). I want to get back into it as I've got all the tools and I love having something a little different. The photos below are 4 of my favourite ones I've done. They are incredibly easy, so no excuses Aimee!

Please feel free to tweet or take me on Instagram any pictures of your own creations. Inspiration needed in bucket loads.

Brows on a budget

Evening lovelies.

I have recently added a new product into my brow rotation, it's the BeautyUK Hi-Brow kit. You get three brow shades and a wax. You also get a mini brush and the smallest cutest tweezers ever created. At £3.99 it's an absolute steal! I like to differ the shade of my brows sometimes depending on my makeup look, so this is perfect. The colours are highly pigmented and long-lasting. I've also taken it with me on a weekend away as it doubles up as a nice neutral eye palette, space saving tip for ya there. Get yourselves down to Superdrug girls, you won't regret it!

Spring tips and toes

Oh Essie, why are you so pretty? The brush, the formula and the shade range are the reasons why they are my absolute favourite nail polish brand. I even prefer them over OPI. I thought I'd just pop a quick post up this morning sharing my favourite shades to wear this season.

Fiji- A very pale almost white pink. It is completely opaque with two coats, which is unusual for such a light shade. It makes even my ghost-like skin look tanned.

Mint Candy Apple- An absolute cult classic! It is so worth the hype in my opinion. It tends to look a bit different on everyone, sometimes it looks a bit more blue and sometimes more green.

Lilacism- This one is a newbie in my collection and I haven't been able to take it off since I bought it. It is an absolutely beautiful lilac shade (hence the name duh!). I don't know why I didn't purchase it sooner.

Cute As A Button- This is a very bright pinky orange shade. It's perfect for spring and summer, it will look gorgeous with a tan. Bright nails always cheer me up!

What are you favourite Essie colours?

Aimee Bakes: Easter cake

Good morning!

Today I bring you my entry for the Easter Make & Bake competition being held by The Pink Whisk and Two Little Fleas. I created a little Easter garden. The cake inside is a lovely lemon and coconut cake.

Ingredients

  1. 250g unsalted butter, softened, plus extra for greasing
  2. 450g golden caster sugar
  3. Zest and juice of 2 lemons
  4. 200ml coconut cream
  5. 8 eggs
  6. 450g of self raising flour

For the filling and decoration

  1. Lemon curd
  2. A large box of regal icing
  3. Buttercream
  4. Icing for decorations
  5. Malteasers bunny
  6. Chocolate nest
  7. Mini eggs

Method

  1. 1. Preheat the oven to 180°C/fan160°C/gas 4. Grease and line 2 cake tins.
  2. 2. Cream the butter, sugar and lemon zest/juice together with an electric whisk. Then whisk in the coconut cream and eggs. Fold in the flour until combined.
  3. 3. Split the mixture into the 2 cake tins. Bake for 30 minutes. Stick a skewer into the middle of the cake and if it comes out clean then they are done. Cool slightly on the tins and them out them on a cooling each to cool completely.
  4. 4. Spread the lemon curd onto the bottom cake. Add the other cake on top. Using a spatula, cover the cake in buttercream and pop in the fridge.
  5. 5. Roll out the regal icing. Lay the icing on top of the cake and smooth over until covered.
  6. 6. Roll out some icing to create the path, making sure is long enough to cover the length of the cake. Dab a tiny bit of water on the cake to secure the path in place. Add green colouring to buttercream to create the grass, them pipe onto the cake.
  7. 7. Add the chocolate nest, chocolate bunny and the flowers.
  8. 8. Enjoy.

Bright Skies and Bright Lips

I see the rain stopping as a signal to whack out the bright summery lip colours. Today was no exception. For a cuppa at the Marina and a walk round the lake it might be a bit OTT, but oh well I love it! I bought Mac Lady Danger about a year ago and it's true love. This is my attempt at the ever so popular orange lip trend, made more wearable by using a red lipstick with orange undertones.

To keep it looking a bit more everyday, I kept my base quite light and glowy, softly defined brows and a simple eye look.

Base- Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua in B10
Mac Prolongwear concealer in NW15
Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Opal
Nars Laguna bronzer
Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush in Tipsy
Maybelline Matte Maker powder

Eyes- Nars eyeshadow primer
Mac eyeshadow in patina
Stila Stay All Day liquid eyeliner
ByTerry Growth Boosting mascara
Benefit Gimme Brow

Lips- Mac Lady Danger (shows up a bit more orange in the photo)

I put some loose curls into my hair using my GHD's.

Here are a few pictures from my walk round the lake at Barton Marina, it's so pretty and relaxing.

Have You Discovered? Powder/Blotting

Good evening lovelies.

I missed out last weeks instalment purely because I was too busy. Today I am back on it and I bring you my favourite powder. I've never been ashamed to admit that sometimes I can be a makeup snob, I do tend to lean towards the higher end brands. But this affordable beauty has caught me hook like and sinker! It's the Maybelline Matte Maker. It is a translucent powder that is so finely milled that it doesn't get cakey, no matter how many times you apply it throughout the day. As an oily skinned gal, I need me some powder and this is just the ticket. I also love the price tag just as much, £3.99- yes you heard it right £3.99! I have tried powders from pretty much every brand out there, I find that I reach for this one more than any of the others that I own. I like to apply it with the Zoeva powder brush, dream duo right there girls.

Happy Birthday Jazzy

So my friend Jazz is officially old! She turned 27 on Tuesday :) To celebrate the day, Hayley and I took her to the Harry Potter studios in Watford on Saturday. We had the most incredible day. For someone that grew up reading the books and watching the films, I couldn't have been more excited. The magic began as soon as you walked out of the train station. We hopped on a big double decker bus covered in Harry Potter graphics which took us straight to the studios. The first piece of set that we came across was the infamous 'the cupboard under the stairs', I think I might've squealed a bit. My favourite parts were Diagon Alley, the Hogwarts replica, Privet Drive, you know what it was all amazing!  I also thoroughly enjoyed sitting in front of a green screen pretending to be in the flying car, childish? Yes. Fun? Absolutely. If you are a Harry Potter fan then you MUST go.

Here are a few pictures. Sorry about the quality, I forgot to take my SLR.

Jazz is on the right and Hayley is on the left. Love my girls.

Finally, here is a picture of the cake that I made for Jazz. If you can't guess, she is obsessed with baths (and wine). I hope that you had an incredible birthday Jazzy, I love you loadssss.

Like a scrub but not a scrub

I'm not a fan of manual exfoliators, I just find them far too abrasive and they anger my spots even more. So these days I prefer to use a chemical exfoliant and today I'm just going to talk about a couple of my absolute favourites. They both reduce/prevent blemishes, boost radiance, smoothes skin texture and evens skin tone.

First up is the Alpha H Liquid Gold. This is the strongest of the two, I use this a maximum of once a week. I wouldn't recommend this to those with super sensitive skin. It is incredibly effective, the next morning you feel like you have new skin. It deserves all of the hype that it gets.

Next is the Clarins Gentle Exfoliator. I use this every other evening after cleansing. It keeps my blemishes at bay and helps with a smooth application of foundation the next morning.

Lust List: Skincare Edition

Good morning lovelies.

Just a quickie today, we have the next instalment of my Lust List. I have got into skincare so much over the last year or so, I've got my little routine down to a tee now. I find applying 10,000 creams to my face at night quite therapeutic really, oddly enough, like my own little spa. I'm on a bit of a spending ban at the moment as I've just got a new car and I'm also saving up for my trip to Dubai later this year. This has meant that my Lust List has been growing by the day, today I bring you my top picks.

Clinique All About Eyes serum- I prefer to use serums and gels under my eyes rather than creams, purely because I find that my concealer sits better on my skin.
Aesop Parsley Seed Mask- All i can say is blogger hype! I am dying to try this out. It is designed to unclog pores. It's perfect for my acne prone combination skin.
Zelens Bio Peel Resurfacing Pads- I love a good chemical exfoliation and i have hear wonderful things about these pads. They retail for about £60 so they are bloomin' expensive, i know that Nip&Fab have a more affordable version so i might try those out first.
Omorovicza Queen of Hungary Mist- I blame this one on Amelia Liana. It has been on my radar ever since she started raving about it.
Sunday Riley Ceramic Slip Cleanser-I am am completely new to Sunday Riley products, but I have heard great things about this cleanser.
Glam Glow Youth Mud Mask-This seems like a miracle product, everyone I know that has tried it out has absolutely loved it. This is probably the next one on my hit list, cant wait to give it a whirl.
