What's in my bag?

Right, I'm not gonna lie. There were a few sweet wrappers, a million hair grips and a tonne of receipts that's I've not included in the photo. For your sake not mine, trust me it wasn't pretty!

This is my Michael Kors Selma bag in black. I got it on my birthday last year in London, after a lot (probably not much in reality) of persuasion from my friends Jazz and Hayley. I love it and use it pretty much every day. I really like the simple design and sleek gold detailing, I don't think I could love it more.

Now let's get down to the contents.

Laura Mercier Ambre Vanilla perfume- A vanilla lovers dream in a bottle. I bloomin' love this scent!
Sure deodorant- Obvious reasons.
Tesco dental harps- I just hate having anything stuck in my teeth.
Hair clip- For emergencies. I don't know what emergencies, but yep emergencies.
Aromatherapy Associates make up bag- This holds my necessities for making me look human throughout the day.
iPhone 5s- To make phone calls, send texts, check twitter, put up a Facebook status, check emails, post an Instagram. You know, the norm.
Emma Bridgwater notebook and pen- Just in case I miraculously become a genius whilst I'm out and must jot something down, or of course my dream man gives me his number and my phone battery dies (a girl can dream). Let's face it, I mainly plan blog posts in it.
Car keys- These are a must to work my vehicle. My pretty new Corsa :)
Michael Kors purse- Must I explain this? No.

Let me know in the comments if you'd like to see what's in my makeup bag.

Have You Discovered? Foundation edition

Sorry for my absence on the blogging scene this week, I have been extremely busy. Anyway, this evening we have the next instalment of the 'have you discovered?' series, this week it's foundation. I generally like light to medium coverage for everyday. Some of my favourites are the Jouer Matte Moisture Tint, Laura Mercier tinted moisturiser and Revlon Nearly Naked, all quite well known and hyped in the beauty community. Today I'm going to discuss one that seems to have slipped of people's radars for some reason. It's the Mac Face & Body foundation. It's super light coverage, but can be built up by adding another layer. I just think it's so versatile and gives a lovely natural glow. It's not the best for my combination skin, but the beautiful finish means that I don't mind powdering a couple of time throughout the day. I use the shade N1 and find that this is perfect for me. It is a bit pricey at £27, but it last so long because you only need a small amount. I recommend it to anyone looking for a light coverage foundation.

Have You Discovered? Primer Edition

Evening all.

So today brings the next instalment of the 'have you discovered' series. It's time to talk primers. I'm not really a primer kinda girl, never have been, but I tried one last summer and fell in love. It's the Clarins Instant Smooth Self Tanning primer. Being the colour of a milk bottle all year round, I can sometimes use an injection of colour every now and then. Don't get me wrong, I embrace  being pale but my skin looks a little dull sometimes. It gives a lovely subtle colour so don't be scared by the look of it in the pot. The texture is very easy to smooth over the skin and provides a lovely glowy base for makeup. Yes Clarins is a popular brand, but I feel that this particular product is spoken about enough.

If you are taking part in this series then please leave your links below, so I can check out your primer recommendations.

Simple makeup with a twist!

Spring is officially here, yayyyy! As much as I love the dark lips of winter, I am so ready for some spring/summer brights. I tend to keep everything else quite simple when I'm whacking on a bold lip, just to keep it looking fresh.

I started with applying my base, to keep things light and dewy I used the Laura Mercier oil free it tinted moisturizer in Porcelain. I prefer to apply this with my fingers, I find that this gives the most natural look. I decided to skip concealer, so sorry for the dark circles. I then applied the Jouer bronzer in Sunswept to my temples and under my cheekbones using the Real Techniques duo fibre face brush. Then for a subtle pop of colour on the cheeks, I applied a little of the Illamasqua cream blusher in Rude, again with my fingers. As I have combination skin, I just popped on a bit of the Estée Lauder Double Wear powder on my t-zone.

I kept the eyes super simple by blending a tiny bit of Mac Charcoal Brown eyeshadow and a heck of a lot of L'Oreal Miss Manga mascara. I also used Charcoal Brown on my eyebrows. I used the Mac 266 brush for eyes and eyebrows.

Finally we have the most important part of this look, the lips. I have done two lip options, a girls gotta have options! They are my two favourite bright bold lipsticks that I have. The first picture is with Nars Satin Lip Pencil in YU and the second picture is Tom Ford Lip Color in True Coral. Both are very creamy  and long lasting. Love love love!

What is your favourite bold lip?

S.O.S - Save Our Skin

Problematic skin is the bane of my life! I suffer with it all- dry patches, blemishes, oiliness, blackheads, sensitivity, redness, need I go on? My combination skin can get quite tiresome to look after, but I have now found a couple fail safe options that have crept their way to the top in my regular rotation, I know that I can rely on them to bring my skin back to normality. I think understanding your skin is crucial, what does your skin need? I’m no expert, queen of skincare Caroline Hirons is the lady to turn to if you want to get a bit more technical, she’s a hero!

I’ve realized that although my skin is oily, it can also get dehydrated, I have noticed such a difference in my skin since addressing this. To do so, I use the Clarins Lotus face oil treatment, it’s a light oil that is designed for combination to oily skin. I find that it gives my skin just the right amount moisture and gives a lovely boost of radiance at the same time, who wouldn’t want that? It also had a big impact on the size and redness of any blemishes, I find that they are dramatically reduced overnight. I know what some of you might be thinking, putting oil on oily skin, what is she on about? Trust me, it works! I’m not going to get too scientific, mainly because I don’t know what I’m talking about, but from what I understand here’s the lowdown. When your skins natural oils are unbalanced , the sebaceous glands produce sebum (nasty stuff that clogs pores and causes breakouts). Sometimes this can be caused by using cleansing products that are too stripping, a regular mistake made by the oily skinned clan (myself included). Once the balance is restored, this should help clear the skin and prevent blemishes from cropping up. I cannot recommend using an oil enough.

Next we have probably the most hyped product of 2012/13, the La Roche Posay Effaclar Duo (now +). Blogger hype is a very powerful thing and this particular product truly deserves it. I mainly use it as a serum before my evening moisturiser, if I’m feeling lazy I will use it in place of a moisturiser,  a bit naughty I know but oh well. It has recently been reformulated, it is still very similar to the original formulation but in my opinion it’s even better. The original was mainly targeted at reducing spots, but now it also claims to reduce the appearance of acne scarring. The lightweight gel texture and very subtle scent reduce the possibility of it irritating even the most sensitive of skins. This has been an absolute miracle worker for me, I recommend this to all of my family and friends when they complain about their blemish woes. Crowd pleaser right here ladies and gents!

Right, now that I have confessed my undying love to these two products we’ll leave it there. What are your skin saviours?

Have you discovered?

As explained in the 'Have you discovered' series introduction a couple of posts back, tonight is the first proper instalment. This series is to spread the word on your holy grail underdog products. Today's category is one of my favourites, skincare! I generally stay with well known products for skincare, the real tried and tested mavericks, so I tend not to have many lesser known products. However, when rummaging through my stash I came across something from a well known brand, but not a very talked about offering from them. I introduced this item into my regular rotation about 10 months ago, I picked it up on a whim whilst splurging in London with my friend Hayley. It is the Clarins Pore Minimising Serum. It is a very lightweight gel texture that you use before your moisturiser, day and/or night. It has dramatically improved both the texture and appearance of my skin, I wouldn't be without it now. I use it probably 3 or 4 times a week in the evenings, I apply it after I use my Clarins Gentle Exfoliating toner (yes I am obsessed with Clarins). I smooth it over my skin with my finger tips, mainly focussing on my t-zone as this is my main problem area. I highly recommend this product to anyone that struggles with pores, dry patches or awkward under the skin bumps. It really is a do it all serum, what a beaut!

Even better, it can currently be found on Escentual for £18.40. It's usually about £26.

Let me know in the comments if you have tried it. Also if you are taking part in the series, please leave your link.

Finally, check out the creator of the series Becka's version at

An Ode to Lisa Eldridge

I have been a fan of Lisa Eldridge since her 'Ten Years Younger' days. I love to watch her work, her precise yet effortless talent is impeccable and inspiring. Lisa is a makeup artist to the stars and her work has been featured in pretty much every fashion and beauty publication all over the world. She is also renowned for her initiative creations during fashion week, whether that be London, New York, Milan or Paris. Her Instagram during the AW14 shows was incredible, so many beautiful models wearing even more beautiful makeup.

Bearing in mind that I am nowhere near as talented as Lisa, I have created a look inspired by the incredible makeup that she created at the Matthew Williamson LFW show using Benefit Cosmetics. I have made it a bit more wearable for us normal girls, I have also done two lip options.

I have listed all the products I used below.

L'Oreal True Match foundation
Mac Prolongwear concealer (under eyes)
Mac Studio Finish concealer (to define eyebrows)
Hourglass Ambient lighting powder is Dim Light

Natural Collection blusher in Peach Melba

Maybelline colour tattoo in On and On Bronze (all over lid)

Mac Lipstick Collection

Anyone that knows me will tell you that lipsticks are my vice, more so than anything else. Mac are some of my absolute favourites. Their vast choice of colours and finishes are second to none. I also really love the simple sleek packaging. When shopping in store, I think that the way they are set out and the friendy and informative staff make the experience a real treat, I always seem to find what I'm looking for. Do I think this will be it for my Mac lipstick addiction? Probably not, but I am super happy with the ones that I have accumulated so far. Now let's gets into the colours.

My favourite shades are Creme Cup, Plumful and Russian Red. However, I highly recommend all of the colours that I have, I haven't been disappointed by a single one.

L-R - Creme Cup (cremesheen), Patiserrie (lustre) & Hue (glaze)

L-R - Rebel (satin), Hot Tahiti (glaze), Russian Red (matte), Plumful (lustre), Syrup (lustre) & Lady Danger (matte)

Essie Nail Polish Collection

I hate having bare nails! I think a nice manicure looks so groomed and put together. The only problem is that I get bored, so I want a different colour every time I paint my nails. This means that I have managed to accumulate quite of few polishes from one of my favourite brands, Essie. I recommend these polishes to everyone, they never leave me disappointed. I bought my Nan some for her birthday and even she loved them, what can I say? The woman's got taste :) Anyway let's get into the colours.

Pastels (L-R)- Mint Candy Apple, Cocktail Bling and Lilacism

Berrys (L-R)-  Raspberry, Big Spender and Bahama Mama

Yankee Candles

I know how cliche it is for beauty bloggers/vloggers to love candles, but hey, I LOVE CANDLES! Yankee Candle are some of my favourites and I currently have two on the go that I have recently repurchased (sign of true love).

First up we have Fireside Treats. As expected it's yummy and sugary, and oh my it is a treat ;)

Next is my all time favourite, Black Cherry. I love everything cherry! Cherry sweets, cherry car air freshener and oh yeah, cherries! Definitely check this one out if you like fruity scents.

I have a few Laura Mercier candles that's I picked up in the Space NK sale waiting to be used, mega excited about these bad boys! Leave any recommendations in the comments box.

Boots Haul

Who goes into Boots when they're on a spending ban? Me, that's who! 3for2 is too much of a good deal for me to pass on, it's like free stuff! That's what I tell myself anyway. As long as it's justified in my head, that's all that matters.

I went to the Boots at The Fort in Birmingham with my 5 year old nephew in tow, on a Saturday, big mistake! At one point we were at the Lancôme counter and he started painting my nails with a foundation brush. Am I having too much of an influence on him? I had to get my sanity back by having a Peach Lemonade at Costa, heaven!

A few of the items I got we're complete impulse purchases, but some of them I have wanted for a while. I have seen everyone raving about the Benefit Gimme Brow, so I snapped that up in the shade medium/dark. I am loving it so far, incredibly easy to apply and makes brows look so full. I have also wanted their WattsUp highlighter for so long, I think to since seeing Sami from BeautyCrush using it. I needed to get a couple of necessities, cotton buds and a L'Oreal cleansing water. I used to use Bioderma, but I'm exploring other, more affordable options. Then came the impulse buys. I don't actually own anything from Too Faced, but I was walking passed the counter and the Natural at Night palette just caught my eye. After giving it a good old swatch, I was sold! The shades are stunning and highly pigmented, I can't wait to give it a proper go. I love Essie polishes so I always have a quick browse when I'm in store. I took advantage of the 3for2 and picked up the shades Lilacism, Sunday Funday and In Stitches. Finally, I picked up the Smashbox Always Sharp Liner in Bare. I sometimes have quite red eyes, so I'm hoping this eyeliner will help with that.

What have you purchased from Boots recently?
