An evening with RMK

Long time no see. I started a new job a couple of months ago and unfortunately that meant that blogging had to take a back seat on my priority list. Luckily, I managed to squeeze in a sneaky bloggers event with RMK in Selfridges Birmingham a few weeks ago.

If the festive season means one thing to me, then it's CHRISTMAS COLLECTIONS and the RMK Christmas in Manhattan collection is an absolute beauty! Before we even go into what's included, let's talk about price because this floored me. Collection are usually so bloomin' overpriced that it can sometimes put me off. However, this kit gives you so much for your money. At £49, you are getting a huge discount on what the items would cost if purchased seperately.

Let's get down to the nitty gritty!

The two items that sealed the deal for me were the eyeshadow quad and the blusher duo. Both are very glittery for my taste, but hey- we are in the festive season after all! Plus, once you've used the blushers a couple of times, the glitter is pretty much non-existent and you're left with a really nice satin finish.  The quad is really quite special, they are all gorgeous shades but the one on the top right is pure magic. It turns any boring old eyeshadow into a really interesting duo-chrome kinda effect. The bottom left shade is basically me in an eyeshadow. You know I love a good bronze! I am so impressed the quality of them and the blendability is up there with some of the best.

Now lets talk about the not so good. The lipgloss. So me and glosses aren't exactly the best of friends and this one certainly didn't convert me. The amount of glitter in it makes it actually quite uncomfortable to wear. So yeah, not a fan. Also, the bag? I just don't get it.

And the nail polish? I hear you say. It's ok.

Overall, I'm quite impressed with the collection. The eyeshadows and blushers make for a really good launch for RMK, I just wish that I liked the rest of it just as much.

I can't seem to find it online, but I have seen that it's still in store at Selfridges. We also got to play with a few items from their permanent makeup and skincare line... and it's love. I definitely plan on investing in a few more products!

Autumn/Winter Wishlisting!

So a while ago my beautiful blogger friend Char asked me to do a beauty wish list and her wish is my command. This is going to be quite possibly my shortest post ever! Purely because I want them  all because they're beautiful and sparkly, plus I tend to waffle.

With Christmas fast approaching, I have my beady little beauty obsessive eyes on these little treasures below. If I don't meet the man of my dreams before Christmas who wants to shower me with gifts, I might just have to wrap them to me from me!

WTH? GlamGlow Supermud

Welcome to my new blog series! WTH? Which stands for Worth The Hype? Ever wondered whether a product is actually as good as everyone says it is? Well this is the series for you!

This cheeky little pot has been popping up on my radar for over a year now. Every Tom, Dick and Harry have had their go of GlamGlow, so why hadn't I? 'Most' of the time, I like to hang back on new highly hyped products and wait for my faves to review it. I finally gave in after hearing Zoe rave about it, plus LookFantastic have it on sale for £34.99. I would've been a fool not to really!

This mask comes with a big promise to 'tighten skin texture and pores whilst fighting common skin problems such as blemishes, breakouts and even ingrown hair'. Now I can't really comment on the ingrown hair part as I'm not really a hairy gal! But as far as the rest of it's glowing description goes, I actually agree. I see a noticeable difference EVERYTIME I use this product. The thing that it helps me with the most is my skin texture, I'm talking babies bum status! Smooth like butter. Also, it has dramatically reduced the size of my blemishes time and time again. I went through a stage about a month ago where I changed jobs, my sleeping pattern was messed up and this all showed up on my skin. I looked like a pizza face/moon crater face. So this used in conjunction with a few other standout products really got me out of my skin sadness.

Now it is quite pricey, so I only apply it to my problem areas. As my cheeks are pretty clear, I save product by mainly applying it to my oily t-zone and my spot-prone chin. Damn you chin! You're the bane of my life! Once the mask has gone from a dark standard clay mask colour to a light grey, you start to see all of the nasties being drawn from your skin, which is probably my favourite part! You can actually see the magic working. Pretty disgusting though I know.

Is it WTH?

Yes- All of the reasons above!

No- I don't have any negatives! Other than maybe the price, as the usual £49.99 price tag is a bit steep. So get it for £34.99 while you can girls and boys, I might even get a back up.

What's On My Face: Smashbox Cherry Smoke Palette

Hi all you gorgeous makeup lovers! Please accept my apologies for the sheer lack of posting on this here blog. Life sometimes takes over and the old blog has to take a back seat. That being said, today I bring you my first WOMF in a blooming long time!

I picked up the Smashbox Cherry Smoke palette (£32) last month and GOOD GOD it's dreamy! I popped along to Boots with the full intention of finally picking up the Full Exposure palette, but there was something about the Cherry Smoke that screamed out to me and within seconds it had jumped into my basket. It was love at first swatch! I was so impressed with the quality of the shadows, as I'd not really tried that much from the brand before. With a good mix of warm and cool toned matte and shimmer shades, it's a real versatile piece of beauty goodness. Admittedly there was a tiny bit of fall out, but nothing that couldn't be fixed with great ease. I can't believe that I haven't heard more about this palette, I am seriously impressed. Want to see how I slapped it all on my face? Yeah, I thought so!

Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze & Glow

Yes, you guessed it. This will be yet another post where I gush about my love for Charlotte Tilbury. I picked up the Filmstar Bronze & Glow (£49) a few months ago and haven't looked back since. It took me a while to give into the hefty price tag, but after a little moment of weakness, it was mine. I had worried that it wouldn't be worth it, but believe me, it so is!

The glorious sculpting shade provides such a lovely contour, while managing to look natural on my pale skin. The slightly shimmery finish provides a subtle sun-kissed look, which would be perfect for every skin tone. The gold toned highlighter gives a gorgeous glow without one speck of glitter in sight. This thing would make anyone look like a golden goddess! It's the perfect finishing touch to any makeup look.

Once again, Charlotte shoots and she scores!!

Charlotte Tilbury Lipstick Collection

Oh Charlotte tilbury, you absolute piece of beauty perfection you! This brand is slowly but surely taking over my Muji. My addiction to this glorious range is starting to get a little out of hand. Do I mind? Heck no! It comes to something when the lovely ladies on your local counter know you by name. The lipsticks are fast becoming part of my top picks. When I get asked the question 'What do you recommend from Charlotte Tilbury?', I always go with an eyeshadow quad or a lipstick. But then I sneakily work my magic and they end up with about ten items in their basket, I'm not even sorry.

Now let's get down to business.

The Matte Revolution range was launched recently and it was love at first sight! The squared tip makes it extremely easy and fool proof to apply. Struggle applying your lippy? Then try this bad boy out! The formula gives you a gorgeous opaque matte finish without drying out your lips. The original range is also pretty phenomenal. The creamy yet long lasting formula means that they're the perfect everyday lipstick. I quite often wear them to work and only find myself reapplying after lunch, which is handy if you're always on the go. They are all encased in gorgeous rose gold toned packaging, which just screams luxury to me. As you can see from the picture below, I have a real mix of shades, so I pretty much have every makeup look covered. If you're unsure of which shade to go for, just go and see someone on a counter, they're always so nice and helpful. I highly recommend the lovely Isabel on the Birmingham Selfridges counter, but all of them are amazing.

(L-R) Night Crimson, Nude Kate, Red Carpet Red, Coachella Coral, So Marilyn and Glastonberry. All can be purchased from the Charlotte Tilbury website or in most Selfridges stores (£23).

I have uploaded a video to my YouTube channel showing you how each shade looks on. I also have a new video up of my morning skincare routine with Vanessa, so check that out as well if you fancy!

Wednesday, 17 September 2014

So if you hadn't already heard, I've started my own YouTube channel. After featuring in a couple of Vannessa's videos a few weeks ago, I decided that I wanted to give it a go. I currently only have two videos up, one really awkward robotic Introduction/Haul and The British Tag. I have quite a few videos planned for the future, as well as a few collaborations with some of my favourite bloggers and vloggers. If you have any video suggestions, then please let me know in the comments.

Keep up to date with new uploads by giving my channel a cheeky 'subscribe' :) Or follow me on Twitter.

Review- Charlotte Tilbury Air Brush Flawless Finish Powder

Now I feel like we know each other well enough by now to not have to justify my love and obsession for Charlotte Tilbury. An item from her range features in pretty much every picture on my Instagram. It's all simply flawless and my most recent splurge is no exception. On a recent trip to Selfridges, I saw the amazing Sali Hughes use the Charlotte Tilbury Air Brush Flawless Finish Powder (£33) and I think I practically ran to the counter to pick one up. I of course picked up 1 Fair, the palest as always! We're still trying to decide whether I'm fully human or part ghost.

I have been craving the perfect setting powder for a while. Being an oily skinned gal is a right pain in the backside! If I don't set most of my foundations in the morning, I'll be looking like I've been swimming by lunch. However, I'm a complicated little soul and although I don't want all of my natural glow (sweat) to show through, I also don't want to look completely matte. You see my predicament? I find that this powder is just the right balance of mattifying the skin as well as letting the skin breath and have a natural glow. I love that I can top it up throughout the day without looking like a dry powdery mess. It glides across the skin beautifully to give a gorgeous soft focus finish. It's so finely milled that it's pretty much undetectable on the skin, it just leaves you looking flawless. I use my Charlotte Tilbury Powder and Sculpt Brush to apply it and they are a match made in heaven!

Like most of the products in the range, the powder also has skincare properties. It contains rose wax and almond oil which hydrates the skin and keeps it looking flawless throughout the day, no matter how many times you reapply.

Sound too good to be true? Trust me, it's definitely worth the splurge!

Tom Ford A/W Haul

I'm not really one to jump onto the limited edition collections, I just think that if I love it and want to repurchase it, then I will be disappointed and more than likely cry like a stroppy 5 year old. However, when the visuals were released for the Tom Ford A/W 2014 collection I majorly swooned. It just looked stunning, as does everything else that they do! My love for their products is growing stronger by the day, it seems that I can't walk into Selfridges without coming out with a bit of TF. Sarah and I were lucky enough to be invited to have a mini makeover at their counter during the stores Perfecting Beauty Event, which took place on Thursday. The gorgeous and extremely talented makeup artist Sian talked us through the new releases while applying them to our eagerly awaiting faces. It was love at first sight, I of course had to pick up a couple items. I'm weak. I have no willpower. Don't judge me! I chose the eyeshadow quad in Nude Dip and the Contouring Cheek Duo in Soft Core.

Nude Dip is absolute perfection. For a palette of just 4 shades, it's actually quite versatile. I thought that I might miss there being a matte shade, but the quality and beauty of this product more than makes up for it. The finish of these shadows is like nothing that I've tried before, they are so smooth and shimmery.   I can't wait to experiment with different colour combinations and I'm sure you will be seeing me use this in an upcoming post. Being the shallow packaging lover that I am, I also love that it has the TF imprinted.

Soft Core, you have absolutely stolen my heart. I actually got to have a sneak peek of this ahead of it's release thanks to a beauty bloggers event that I attended at Selfridges the previous week. There are two shades of the cheek duos but this one caught my eye straight away. I think that the blusher is so autumnal and will look gorgeous on my pale skin. The other is more of a warm shade, which for me isn't the kinda look I go for in autumn/winter. Give me rosy cheeks and a vampy lip any day over looking sun-kissed. The blusher is extremely pigmented and buttery, which makes it a dream to apply and blend. I cannot rave about the highlighter enough, I simply don't do glitter on my cheeks so when I saw that this gave a glowing from within effect, I knew that it had to be mine.

I think the only thing missing was a darker lipstick, the colours in the collection were lovely but I already have similar colours from them.

What has been your favourite release of the A/W collections so far?

Aimee Bakes: Oreo Cupcakes

Is anyone else sat dribbling over The Great British Bake Off? I want a poached pear wrapped in pastry...YUM! So just to get you salivating even more, here is my recipe for the perfect Oreo Cupcakes. I made them for a bake sale a couple of weeks ago and they were one of the most popular and for good reason, they are delicious!

85g self raising flour
25g Horlicks
15g cocoa powder
1/4 tsp bicarbonate of soda
pinch of salt
125g caster sugar
135g unsalted butter, softened
2 large free-range eggs
1 & 1/2 tbsp milk
1/4 tsp vanilla extract
1 packet of Oreo cookies

200g unsalted butter, softened

450g icing sugar, sifted
3 tbsp milk
1/4 tsp vanilla extract
1/2 packet of crushed Oreos

Plus extra Oreos for decoration.

1. Sift the flour, Horlicks, cocoa powder, bicarbonate soda, salt and caster sugar into a bowl and combine with a spoon.

2. Whisk the butter until pale and creamy. Then add half of the eggs and half of the dry mixture. Mix thoroughly, then add the rest of the eggs and dry mixture. mix until smooth and combined.

3. Add the milk and vanilla extract.

4. Place a WHOLE Oreo cookie in the bottom of your cupcake cases. Then spoon in the mixture so that the cases are about 2/3 full.

5. Bake at 170C for 22 minutes or until a skewers comes out clean. Once cooked, leave them to cool completely on a cooling rack.

6. While they're cooling, we need to make the buttercream! Mix the butter until pale and creamy, then slowly add the icing sugar and mix well. Add the milk and vanilla extract. Once completely smooth, add the crushed Oreos.

7. Top them off with half an Oreo, just because it obviously needs even more Oreos!

If you don't like Oreos then this really isn't the post for you, but don't worry I've got your back, I have a few more recipes coming up.

Going Crazy In Kiko

So if you have already watched the video that I did with Vanessa last week for her YouTube channel, then you will know that things got a little crazy when I had my first experience in the Kiko store on Regent Street. It's a brand that has rather a lot of hype around it at the moment and after having a mooch in person I can completely understand why. The price tag is also a great incentive, especially for the quality. I'm going to London again in a few weeks, so I imagine that I might have to take a detour to Regent Street. Just a bit of advice though, if you go then make sure you are wearing as little clothing as possible. It's like a sauna in there. It also has crazy disco lighting, which isn't ideal when swatting products.

If you had told me a year ago that I would be obsessed with cream eyeshadow sticks, then I would've laughed in your face. I have always had quite oily eyelids, so cream products used to be a massive no no for me. However, beauty brands are killing it at the moment with their long lasting formulas and stunning shades. My blogging wife Sarah was raving about the the Kiko long lasting sticks (£6.90), so obviously that was the first stand that I hit when I got in there. I picked out 5 of them! Excessive? Yes, but I like to grab an opportunity when I can. Plus I was feeling rather spendy. They are extremely pigmented and last forever and a day. Out of everything in this post I recommend these the most, total perfection. I bought the following shades;

07- Gold/champagne
21-Pink/peach with gold shimmer
36- Pink/purple
37- Warm toned brown
10- Emerald green

I also picked up two of their Glamorous eye pencils (£2.90). Again, I never used to be a big kohl pencil wearer but I fell in love with these shades. I can't wait to use them in more makeup looks coming into Autumn. I picked up;

413- Forest green
407- Navy

The last thing that I picked up was the Colour Fever eyeshadow quad in the shade 100 (£13.90). It's full of purply taupe toned neutrals, which is perfect for my green eyes. I've used it a couple of times already and I am so impressed with the quality of these eyeshadows. There was another palette that I had my beady little eye on so I predict it to be in my basket in a few weeks.

Top row- Eyeshadow quad in 100
Bottom row (L-R)- 407, 413, 07, 21, 36, 37 & 10

Can you tell that I'm impressed? Have you used anything from Kiko? If you have any recommendations then please let me know.

Selfridges Birmingham Bloggers Event

Do you have a home away from home? Well mine is Selfridges in Birmingham. If I had to choose only one place to shop for the rest of my life, it would be a no-brainer. Every floor is a place of pure luxury, but let’s face it, level 3 is where it’s at! The quite recently refurbished beauty hall has everything that you could ever wish for, from Chanel to Mac and even brands that are harder to get a hold of like Shu Uemura and Charlotte Tilbury. Now that I have confessed my love for the place, let’s get down to the nitty gritty.
The lovely personal beauty shopper and fellow beauty blogger Rose invited a group of bloggers along to their first bloggers event, which couldn’t I couldn’t have been more excited for. So on Thursday I hopped on the train to New Street with my loyal companion Sarah. We went for food and a milkshake at Ed’s diner, need I say more? It’s the one. After we were stuffed to the point of popping, we headed on up to meet Rose and the other girls. We were then escorted to the room of glory and prosecco! We were greeted by representatives of some of my favourite beauty brands; there was Tom Ford, Charlotte Tilbury, Nars, Crème de la Mer, Kiehls, Shu Uemura, Estee Lauder and GHD. Each brand had a selection of goodies to show us, I felt like a kid in a candy shop!
We flitted from brand to brand for two hours and in turn accrued a wish list as long as my arm. Tom Ford were such a tease, they bought along a few products from their upcoming collection. Don’t worry though, they’ll be mine next week! The gorgeous girls from Charlotte Tilbury were there as well, Isabel kindly gave me a CT makeup bag, I COULD’VE DIED. Nars gave us all the cutest mini deep throat blusher, absolutely adorable. I can’t wait to give it a go (hold your giggles people). GHD also gave my hair the little zhuzh that it so badly needed, I looked like Monica from Friends ‘it’s the humidity!’. The cherry on the cake was actually a doughnut, a personalised doughnut I might add.
I had such a good evening, I loved being in a room full of like-minded beauty addicts. We also got to hear more about their Perfecting Beauty event which is taking place on the 4th September. Are you going? If not, then you’re crazy! The tickets are £10 each, which is fully redeemable on products bought on the night. If you would like to come the Rose is your woman.
Thanks again to Rose and Selfridges, you put on a cracking night.

Aimee Bakes- Cherry bakewell loaves

Fear not! I am still alive. I've just been incredibly busy, which meant that unfortunately blogging had to take a back seat for a couple of weeks. But I'm back now and will hopefully be posting a lot more frequently.

One of the events that kept me away from the keyboard was a big bake sale that I did on Saturday. As most of you will know, baking is one of my passions so I loved every last exhausting second of making a million and one cakes! I am going to pop a few of the recipes up on here over the next few weeks, but today I am going to start with one of the most popular ones... cherry bakewell loaves and believe me they were delicious. Let's get down to it.

85g butter
70g caster sugar
1 egg
1 egg yolk
70g self-raising flour
1 tsp almond extract
55g ground almonds
55g glace cherries
A handful of flaked almonds

1. Preheat the oven to 180c.
2. Put the butter, caster sugar, egg, egg yolk, flour, almond extract and ground almonds in a mixer and beat togeher until smooth. Chop the cherries into quarters and fold them into the mixture.
3. Spoon the mixture into loaf cases (can be purchased from most supermarkets/baking shops).
4. Break up the flaked almonds and scatter them over the cake mixture.
5. Bake them in the oven for 25 minutes. Leave to cool for 5 minutes in the tray and transfer them to a cooling rack.
6. Enjoy!

You also have the option of adding a bit of icing. Mix 55g of icing sugar with 2tsp lemon juice and drizzle over the cakes when completely cool.

Like me, only better

Eat healthily and exercise. It’s such a simple concept isn’t it? Then why is it so bloody hard?

I hope that you’re all sitting down for this one! I have joined the gym. I know, I know… who am I????

To be honest, I don’t know why it has taken me this long to do something of this sort. It’s no secret that I’m packing a ‘FEW’  extra pounds. It’s never really bothered me before but after Beth started the Healthy Selves campaign back in June, I decided to give myself a kick up the arse. Up until now I’ve been a bit hit and miss with it, well not anymore! I have every intention for this to be the point of change. I am changing my lifestyle, not just what I eat.  Can I promise that I will stick to it every second of every day? No, probably not. I know that if I restrict myself from treats every now and then, I won’t stick to it. For example, I’m off to London this weekend and I’m sure we’ll be indulging in some yummy food and cocktails.

Part of this journey will be me updating you guys. Don’t worry you won’t be seeing pictures of me in my pants saying ‘oooh look, I’ve lost an inch off my right thigh’, no one wants to see that! I actually really enjoy healthy food, so expect to see some recipes popping up here and there.

If you're in a similar situation and need some encouragement, go follow better on Twitter. She hosts a #healthyselves chat every Monday. Also check out her YouTube channel for extra inspiration and tips.,d.d2k&psig=AFQjCNHs7ILWDGEzRvJgBFjZ8_SA4iO0GQ&ust=1407849246801911

For The Love of Lush

It's quite rare that I dedicate a whole post to one product, but I think that this particular item deserves a lot of love. It's quite a humble little lippy, it doesn't ask for much, just to be given a chance. Anyway, before we get into it, here's a little back story.

Lush launched their makeup range back in Summer 2012 and I think that it deserves a lot more attention than it currently gets. It seems to be quite under the radar. To be completely honest I can see why, the prices are similar to Mac and some of the products look a bit out there, but there are some real gems that are so worth the price tag.

I attended a blogger meetup back in June, part of the day was a lock-in kinda tour around Lush in Birmingham city centre. Already being an avid lover of the bath bombs, skin care etc, I really wanted to learn more about the makeup that they have to offer. The lovely Lush lady Claire chatted about each product and explained the purpose of them, she pointed out that a lot of them are multi use, which I thought was pretty cool. I'm not usually one to buy into the whole lip and cheek thing, however these are amazing, I'd wear it on my whole face if I could.

Right, let's get back on track. This is why I don't tend to do these kind of posts, I'm such a waffler! I'm going to try to say this without sounding like a total creep. When I walked into Lush I noticed Claire's incredible lip colour, so after all of the introductions were done I immediately made a beeline for her. She told me that it was their lipstick in Perspective, it was in my basket within seconds. A couple of the other girls picked it up too, we were all in awe of it.

It is a gorgeous rosy pink shade that's just perfect for everyday. The thing that I love most about it is it's versatility. If you give your lips a quick swipe and pat it in, it creates a really enhanced natural matte lip. However, do a couple of slicks and you'll be lookin' glossy. Like the others in the range, you can also use it as a blusher and eyeshadow. I think I'll be sticking to lips and cheeks for now though. The formula is so smooth and long-lasting, it's a real treat to wear. I really love the packaging too, it's quite compact so it's perfect for your handbag. It doesn't look like your average lipstick from the outside, don't worry though, it just has the standard doe foot applicator so a super speedy and precise application. I'm not going to get into ingredients because lets face it, who cares, but they contain jojoba oil which keeps you lips hydrated through it's wear.

I don't really buy into the whole makeup to match your mood thing, that's aside trust me, these are good quality products that truly have captured my heart!

It can be purchased in store or on for £14.50.

Summer Lovin 2

 Happy Friday!

Here is another edition of my Summer Lovin series. I hope that you all check out these lovely ladies.
Paige's Preferences Where do I even start with Paige? She is possibly the kindest, sweetest and funniest person I've ever met, but don't get me wrong I can tell she's got a bit of sass in her! I've met her a couple of times now and I can already tell that she's a good friend. I suppose I better mention her blog! I am obsessed with her 'What's on my nails Wednesday' posts. Her layout is absolutely beautiful too, it's so pretty and girly.

Now I introduce Paige's bestie, Jess. Whenever I think about Jess now, the first thing that springs to mind is her drinking an Ed's diner milkshake, rather sexually I might add! Her and Paige are two peas in a pod, when I'm with Paige I feel like I'm with Jess and vice versa. She makes me cry from laughter, some of the stuff that she comes out with is hilarious but unrepeatable. Jess has some of the best reviews going, they are always so honest and detailed. Cant wait to see her next week! *excited emoji*
What a babe! I've spoken to the lovely Erin since pretty much the beginning of AimeeLoves. I describe myself as a lipstick addict, but she is something else!!! I've never known anything like it. She is so consistent with her posts, my hero, teach me your ways. I wish you'd hurry up and come to the Midlands to meet me and Sarah .

Finally, we have the lovely Amy. I had the pleasure of meeting Amy at Paige and Jess' meetup at the beginning of July and I loved her instantly. I've seen her a couple of times now and always have such a giggle. I love the mix of posts that she has on her blog, it's perfect! She was also the lucky winner of my birthday giveaway, I cant wait to help her pick out a Charlotte Tilbury lipstick next week :)
